Session 1: September 20 - October 25
Core Classes: (Dan Borth & Elders)
Are you new to Calvary? Have you been part of our church family for a while but want to take your next steps and explore membership? During this class you will learn more about Calvary’s core beliefs, discover what makes our denomination (Evangelical Free Church of America) unique, seek to better understand how God has uniquely designed you, and explore what membership looks like for people in our church.
Bible OT : Ezekiel Part 1 (Beth Wade)
We may give lip service to the phrase “God is an awesome God.” But what do we know about His glory and His honor, and more importantly, what do we do with it? Come and join in the discussion of Ezekiel as we seek to uncover the meaning of “You will know that I am the LORD” (Ezekiel 6:7). Each week we will read aloud a portion of the scripture together and discuss its meaning. There is no preparation or homework required. Previous Bible study may be helpful but is not necessary. This is a low-key, user-friendly approach to reading and understanding this important Old Testament book of the Bible. During the first six weeks we will be studying Ezekiel 1-28.
Christian Living: Grandparenting Matters (Sherri Ralfs)
Culture says, “it’s time to take it easy and enjoy spoiling your grandchildren.” Scripture says, “Grandparents are called to a greater level of influence.” As a Christian grandparent you are important to your grandchildren, you are in a unique position of influence, and you can build and grow relationships with your family. In this six-week session we will spend time teaching, training, and encouraging grandparents to intentionally invest in the younger generations of the church.
Christian Living: Poetry Collective (Kyle Bradley)
This six week session will be a time of sharing, creating, and discussing poetry as we seek to connect with the heart places God has given us. We will explore what it looks like to see God through creative writings and worship him through creating.
Christian Living: Free of Me* (Amber Blair) *For Women Only
We live in a culture that's all about self, becoming the best “me” I can be instead of becoming like Jesus. This me-centered message affects every area of our lives—our friendships, families, self-image, even our faith—and it negatively impacts each one. The self-focused life robs our joy, shrinks our souls, and is the reason we never quite break free of insecurity. In this series, Sharon Hodde Miller invites us into a bigger, Jesus-centered vision—one that restores our freedom and inspires us to live for more. Based on her book Free of Me, this study unveils our deepest insecurities and equips us to focus on God and others instead of ourselves. Discover a purpose bigger than “project me” and experience freedom from the burden of self-focus. Sharon uses practical tools from Scripture along with real women’s experiences to help us shift our focus from ourselves to God. By shifting our focus back to God, we can live out the bigger story he has for us with more freedom and joy.
Session 2: November 1 - December 6
Bible OT: Ezekiel Part 2 (Beth Wade)
We may give lip service to the phrase “God is an awesome God.” But what do we know about His glory and His honor, and more importantly, what do we do with it? Come and join in the discussion of Ezekiel as we seek to uncover the meaning of “You will know that I am the LORD” (Ezekiel 6:7). Each week we will read aloud a portion of the scripture together and discuss its meaning. There is no preparation or homework required. Previous Bible study may be helpful but is not necessary. This is a low-key, user-friendly approach to reading and understanding this important Old Testament book of the Bible. During the second six weeks we will be studying Ezekiel 29-48.
Apologetics: The Bible (Brad Aslin)
The Bible holds an essential place in Christian faith. It claims to be - and the Church recognizes it as - the Word of God. But what do we do with spots in Scripture that seem to contradict one another? Is the Bible reliable in all that it teaches? Where did Scripture come from? What are some arguments that might be used against it? How can we have conversations with others about the Bible who share different opinions from us? In this study we will talk about these questions and more.
Christian Living: Peacemaker for Families (Jeff Harding)
Managing conflict well is one of the most important skills and applications of wisdom for followers of Jesus. Peacemaking for Families is a six-week class that will provide awareness, skills, and methods for how to approach healthy and biblically-based reconciliation amidst family conflict.
NT Bible: The Letter of James (TBD)
The Letter of James is easily accessible and a great conversation starter for the person who has either studied the bible for their whole life or is new to Christianity. James references key points from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount and calls his followers to live wisely. In this six-week study we will spend time talking about the letter as a whole and then spend one week focusing on each chapter.
