Studies & Classes for Spring 2024 will begin on February 6 and consist of two five-week sessions ending April 9 (with a break for Spring Break on March 26). These classes are for men and women and there are no prerequisites for registering for a class. Doors open at 6 PM. Come early for coffee and fellowship. Classes begin at 6:30 and finish at 8 PM.

Session 2: March 12 - April 16 (excluding 3/26)

NT Bible: Miracles of Jesus | Part 2 (Beth Wade)

Do you believe in miracles? Jesus performed many when he walked on earth. Is He still in the business of doing miracles today? Does the presence of miracles in your life have anything to do with how expectantly you look for one? Come join in the discussion as we gather ‘round the table to discuss the signs and miracles of Jesus as outlined in John’s gospel. Each week we will listen as a portion of the scripture is read aloud and then interact with the text as we discuss its meaning. No preparation/no homework. Previous Bible study may be helpful but is not necessary. This is a low-key, user-friendly approach to reading and understanding scripture, with the goal of seeing how Jesus can make the impossible in our lives possible. This class will be split into two parts – participation in one is not required for participation in the other.

Family Ministries: Sexuality (Jeff Harding)

In this class geared to parents, we’ll be discussing the important and complex topic of human sexuality. How do we lead our children and families well in a culture that is so overly sexualized? In this grace-filled class, we’ll discuss the purposeful sexuality God created for us, the depths of how sin has distorted it, and how to equip ourselves with the discernment and hospitality needed for those walking through our doors asking all sorts of questions and identifying any number of ways. Using the Bible, healthy theology, definitions of current identities/terms/diagnoses of sexuality, and research, we will aim to set up as parents for better awareness, perspective, and conversations with their kids around the topic of sexuality.

Christian Living: Social Engagement (Paul Utnage & Brad Aslin)

Culture, society, and politics are important spheres of social engagement, and God is keenly interested in them. How should Christians engage the culture and society in which we live? In this five-week class we will share a theological framework for Christian social engagement. Join us and we’ll consider and discuss what the bible has to say regarding several important topics: politics, abortion, immigration, and the environment.

COST: $5 per class

Session 1: February 7 - March 7

OT Bible: Isaiah 1 (Beth Wade)
Join in the discussion of the Book of Isaiah as we examine this ancient book filled with history and prophecy. Each week we will read or listen aloud to a portion of the scripture together and discuss its meaning. There is no preparation or homework required. Previous Bible study may be helpful but is not necessary. This is a low-key, user-friendly approach to reading and understanding this important Old Testament book of the Bible. During the first five weeks we will be studying Isaiah 1-39.

Christian Living: Peacemaking for Families (Jeff Harding)
Managing conflict well is one of the most important skills and applications of wisdom for followers of Jesus. Peacemaking for Families is a six-week class that will provide awareness, skills, and methods for how to approach healthy and biblically-based reconciliation amidst family conflict.

Christian Living: It's Not Supposed to Be This Way (Women's class) (Amber Blair)
In this six-session video Bible study based on Lysa TerKeurst’s book It’s Not Supposed To Be This Way, Lysa offers a safe place to share your disappointments, fresh biblical insight to get you through painful situations, and life-giving perspectives for living in between Eden and eternity. Join other women encouraging one another to explore peace and hope in the midst of a culture of anxiety and disappointment.

Christian Living: Poetry Collective (Kyle Bradley)
This five-week session will be a time of reading, creating (optional), and discussing poetry as we seek to connect with the heart-places God has given us. We will explore what it looks like to see God through creative writings, worship him through creating, and process ideas and emotions through discussing a variety of poems.

Core Classes - Membership Classes (Dan Borth & Elders)
Are you new to Calvary? Have been part of our church family for a while but want to take your next steps and explore membership? During this class you will learn more about Calvary's core beliefs, discover what makes our denomination (Evangelical Free Church of America) unique, seek to better understand how God has uniquely designed you, and explore what membership looks like for people in our church.
